SOKLaw prides itself in providing free(pro bono) legal services to the poor and marginalized groups of Kenya through its Access to Justice Initiative-Kenya(AJIK).
The mission of AJIK is three tiered: (i) legal representation; (ii) training;((iii)mentorship and (iv) legal advise community members, community leaders, upcoming young lawyers and students on matters access to justice to the poor& marginalized communities of Kenya so that they can be empowered to know and demand their rights free from exploitation.
We represent members of the community that largely comprises of the elderly, women and youths who are poor and therefore unable to access the courts of law by preparing pauper briefs. We train and mentor young lawyers, law students and community leaders on alternative forms of dispute resolution. We also provide legal advise to community members in instances where accessing the courts may not be necessary.
AJIK pilot program was initiated in Embu County on July 2015 where over six(600) poor and vulnerable groups gathered in the county stadium in long throes as they sough legal advise. To date, three lawcamps have been held in in Homabay and Migori Counties of Kenya.
